Weight -> Strength Best Ratio?

This discussion area is for basic structure building concepts. Not intended for advanced concepts.
*Good Example: Balsa can bend with the addition of boiling water.
*Good Example: Triangle is the strongest shape for most applications of bracing.
*Bad Example: Balsa can hold X pounds under these conditions.
*Bad Example: Use this shape for this application.
Basically I want you to think a design through with the basics instead of someone else thinking through your design for you.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to build the most efficient structure for a school project, and i'm wondering what density of wood would yield the best results. Theres no minimum weight, just as long as the efficiency (mass in g held / mass of structure in g) is high, im fine.

Balsa wood in general has a very high weight to strength ratio. I would suggest, though, to experiment with different densities and figure out for yourself which density is best.

i think you should decide on a design first as well, so you know what kind of density suits it too
